KTR: The Young Turk of Telangana Politics
Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao (KTR), popularly known by his initials KTR, is an Indian politician serving as the Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development; Industries and Commerce; and Information Technology, Electronics and Communications of Telangana. He is the son of K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana and the founder of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).
KTR was born in 1976 in Karimnagar district, Telangana. He studied BSc in Microbiology, Chemistry and Botany from Nizam College of the Osmania University at Hyderabad. He holds two Post-Graduate degrees—MSc in Bio-Technology from University of Pune and MBA in Marketing and E-Commerce from City University of New York (CUNY).
KTR entered politics in 2009 when he was elected to the Telangana Legislative Assembly from Sircilla constituency. He was re-elected to the Assembly in 2014 and 2018.
In 2014, KTR was appointed as the Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development in the Telangana government. He is also the working president of the TRS.
