Singireddy Niranjan Reddy: A farmer leader turned politician

Singireddy Niranjan Reddy is an Indian politician serving as the Minister of Agriculture, Co-operation and Marketing of Telangana since 2019. He represents Wanaparthy constituency in the Telangana Legislative Assembly. He is a member of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) politburo.

Niranjan Reddy was born on 4 October 1958 in Pangal, Telangana. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Osmania University and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Government Law College, Hyderabad. He practiced law for several years before entering politics.

Niranjan Reddy began his political career as a student leader. He was the president of the Osmania University Students’ Union in 1982-83. He joined the TRS in 2001 and became one of its prominent leaders.

Niranjan Reddy first contested the State Legislative Assembly elections in 2004 from Kollapur constituency, but lost. He contested again from Wanaparthy constituency in 2014, but lost again. He was appointed Vice Chairman of the Telangana State Planning Board in December 2014.

Niranjan Reddy contested the State Legislative Assembly elections again from Wanaparthy constituency in 2018 and won by a margin of 51,685 votes. He was appointed cabinet minister on 19 February 2019 for agriculture, marketing, cooperation, food & civil supplies, consumer affairs.

Niranjan Reddy is a popular farmer leader in Telangana. He is known for his simple lifestyle and his commitment to the welfare of farmers. He has implemented several schemes for the welfare of farmers, including the Rythu Bandhu scheme, which provides financial assistance to farmers, and the Mission Kakatiya scheme, which aims to restore and renovate tanks and other water bodies in Telangana.
